Creativity & Athletics: Peak Performance

You can care deeply about your craft or sport and still feel held back by pressure and stress. I offer a space to understand what happens before, during and after an important performance or event. You'll practice meeting objectives without making every outcome a verdict of your worth.

Start where you are

Does this sound familiar?

Perhaps practice feels different from performing in front of others. Perhaps an unfinished project, an audition, or a competition brings up self-doubt. We can begin with the moment that feels difficult and what you wish could be different.

  • I feel prepared until the pressure is on.

Explore the thoughts, expectations, and physical sensations that show up when it is time to perform, and practice a response you can return to.

  • My inner critic gets in the way of creating.

Make room to understand perfectionism and self-judgment, and identify a manageable step toward the work you want to make.

  • One mistake stays with me long after it happens.

Talk through disappointment and the meaning you give a setback, while practicing a more supportive way to regroup.

  • I compare myself to everyone around me.

Clarify what matters to you and separate your own goals from the expectations you feel you have to meet.

  • I keep putting off the next opportunity.

Explore what makes the next step feel risky and choose an action that feels specific and workable.

Therapy and performance

A steadier relationship with your performance

Peak performance can mean different things to different people. In therapy, the focus is on the emotional patterns, self-talk, and responses to pressure that surround your creative or athletic goals. This is psychological support, rather than technical instruction in a sport or art form.

A plan shaped around your moment

I start by listening to what you want to work toward and where you feel stuck. We can look at a recent performance, a recurring creative block, or the anticipation of an upcoming event, and notice the thoughts and emotions connected to it.

Psychotherapy offers room to explore the roots of self-doubt and the expectations you carry. When appropriate, I can discuss hypnotherapy or NLP as possible tools for focused rehearsal and practicing a different response. The approach is collaborative and shaped around your objective.

Between conversations, a next step might be noticing your self-talk during practice, returning to a project in a smaller way, or reflecting on how you respond to a mistake. We can revisit what feels useful and adjust the plan together.

Goals and growth

Goal Achievement with scientific-proven steps

Your goal might be showing up for an audition, finishing a piece of creative work, competing with a clearer focus, or recovering emotionally after a disappointing result. Naming the goal helps us keep the work connected to your life.

Progress does not have to mean an uninterrupted run of successes. It may mean responding to uncertainty with less self-criticism, making room for feedback, or taking the next step even when confidence is not perfect.

Therapy cannot promise a particular score, role, result, or career outcome. It can offer a place to understand what gets in your way and practice a more workable relationship with the process.

  • Perfectionism that makes starting difficult
  • Fear of judgment or disappointing others
  • Self-doubt after a setback
  • Comparison that pulls attention away from your goals

The person behind the performance

I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I make room for the person behind the goal: your emotions, relationships, expectations, and the patterns that may reach beyond the stage, studio, or field.

You do not need to be a professional artist or athlete to talk about a goal that matters to you. A first conversation is a chance to describe what is happening and consider whether my way of working feels like a useful fit.

Online sessions are available for adults located in California. We can discuss your objective and the approaches that may fit during an initial consultation.

Questions and answers

Before you begin

Do I need to be a professional artist or athlete?

No. You can bring a creative or athletic goal that matters to you, whether it is part of your work or a personal pursuit. A consultation can help us discuss whether this focus fits your needs.

Is this athletic coaching or creative instruction?

No. Therapy focuses on emotional patterns, self-doubt, and responses to pressure. It does not replace technical coaching or instruction in your sport or art form.

Can hypnotherapy or NLP be part of the work?

When those tools fit your objective, I can discuss them as possible parts of a collaborative therapy plan. We can talk about the approach and your questions before deciding how to proceed.

Does therapy guarantee better performance?

No particular performance outcome is guaranteed. The work focuses on understanding what gets in your way and practicing responses that support your goals.
